Frequently Asked Questions

An archetype is a single symbol and/or word that encapsulates a larger meaningful idea or concept that is widely recognizable. The archetypes I work with in Archetype Wisdom work are exclusively character archetypes that pivot on a (usually) recognizable value associated with that simple package that influences human perception and thus, also behavior, within a limited spectrum connected to the value. Example: The Teacher character archetype may bring to mind teachers you know, but the word Teacher does not encompass every aspect of that person. It can, however, help you identify a limited range of motivations and behaviors of that person in circumstances where an educational component is present.
Yes! With this caveat: Archetype Wisdom work is *not intended to replace regular Bible Study* for your personal Christian development or the superior benefits that come from a regular study of Biblical scripture. It is also not intended to replace prayer, though it can enhance what areas of your life you decide to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance with. This work is intended to provide someone seeking a personal coaching framework a fun way to access insights into their unique personality that ties into a Biblical orientation. It places the source of your transformation back on God by engaging in the exercise of identifying what you value at a subconscious level (identified by archetypal associations) and aligning it with Godly principles. It also helps you to foster compassion for others, which improves personal relationships. The "Wisdom" part of Archetype Wisdom is discovering how you can best honor God in the archetypal values specific to you by transforming areas of sin and shadow via repentance and Holy Spirit guidance. Of course, there is also a secular (non-Christian) way to do coaching with archetypes, and most other archetype coaches cater to this approach. However, what you will learn from Archetype Wisdom training is that doing so is part of a false-light calibration deception since they follow the New Age/New Thought idea that you can be your own God/create your own reality using archetypal knowledge. Archetype Wisdom's Christian orientation teaches that archetypes are inherent in God's design and therefore, the spiritually beneficial way to evaluate them is by considering the intention of the Master Creator (using scriptural references) and how archetypal information can support your sanctification process. The key word being *support* as Jesus Christ is the sole route to transforming sin. This work can help you to uncover your blind spots in relation to sin and shadow and provide a way to identify your progress.
While I’m sure there are people who claim and believe this, I do not endorse that view. Character archetypes are like psychological coding akin to DNA genetic proteins (analogy only) - personality aspects or parts of a conscious orientation that pivot on a value or small set of values, parts that make up a greater whole but have no way to act on their own as conscious beings. They are only relevant in the presence of a large collection of archetypes being acted upon by a conscious being (like you): just as a single cell of your body can be isolated and viewed as alive but not in the sense that it could be mistaken for the whole of you.

Archetypal characters can be identified either by behavior, by their core value, or by material props that support the value. So you can arrive at an archetypal character when someone reveals activities or intentions or if someone acknowledges a specific value or willfully possesses items associated with the activities of the archetype. Every archetype is a package that contains the BEING, DOING and HAVING of a personality aspect. BEING - the identity and expressed value of the type DOING - actions you perform to express the value HAVING - material tools or props that support the type's value For example, a person who plays a musical instrument has a Musician archetype in the subconscious, even if they don't enjoy playing the instrument, simply because they engage in transforming something in the expression of music. The something could be transforming music on a page to music that is audible, transforming their mood, transforming the emotions of an audience or the ambiance of a room or any combination of these. Likewise, if someone enjoys the value of music, and identifies with the Musician archetype, we can assume they are likely to engage in singing and or playing an instrument and or appreciate listening to music. If someone collects vintage music records that hold musical memories for them, we can associate them with the Musician archetype, even if they don't consider themselves to be talented as a musician.
Great question! There isn't any specific scripture to suggest that a person must identify a character archetype to gain wisdom in the eyes of God. People gain wisdom all the time without ever knowing anything about the existence of subconscious character archetypes. However, God gives an example of how He desires us to hold three archetypal characters close in relationship to Him: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He does this because it simplifies the complex nature of a transcendent deity and gives us an idea of how He wishes to show up in our lives: as a beloved, close family member and advisor. Of course, God has some association with every archetype created by Him. For example, God is identified in the Bible as many archetypes such as the Master Creator, Artist, Avenger, Healer, Miracle Worker, Authority, Destroyer, Human, Teacher, Rabbi, Prophet, Fisherman (Fisher of Men) , Chosen One, Savior, Storyteller, Servant, Craftsman, King, Companion, Host, Martyr, and Judge. However, He doesn't ask us to relate to Him in these roles in our present, personal relationship. The Trinity is the instructional set for us to understand how He wishes to interact with us on a daily basis. Same One God, three distinct ways He wishes us to interact with Him. This is why The Trinity is such an important part of the gospel message, even though it often perplexes and divides within Church settings. Another way Character Archetypes work is similar to Parables. They are an entire package of valuable information simplified in symbology. Jesus taught in Parables to intentionally cloak the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven for those not seeking it (Mark 4:10-12) but reveal it to those hungry for the information. With the Holy Spirit as a guide, story narratives come alive with wise lessons for us. This is why I invite the Holy Spirit to join us in my coaching sessions: approaching our work in a humble prayerful manner. Character archetypes work powerfully in the narrative of your life and the Holy Spirit will help decode them as part of the process. I'm just a facilitator or if you're using a Card Deck, it is just a tool. Having a better understanding of how archetypes work will give you new insights into Bible scripture interpretation and perhaps you will also marvel, as I do, at the creative mastery of their design and powerful influences in our personal and collective psyches. Another benefit is that this work provides a more clear way to access forgiveness of others as we are asked to do: Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32).
What we might identify as a demon possession is essentially a *spirit* hijacking an archetypal value or set of values with the specific intent to keep you and/or others away from a connection to God. Yes, saved Christians can be subject to this. Jesus Christ can turn the ship around but only if the person is willing to ask for help to do so. It should be noted that the word "possession" can be misleading in this context. I am not of the belief that a saved Christian's eternal soul can be stolen from God by Satan, but rather that a saved Christian can still be manipulated to promote sinful behavior of the flesh. This can happen if an archetypal value becomes cut off from the will of God/ the Holy Spirit, thus growing in a false light orientation, usually through deception, including doctrinal deception. Instead of possessing the soul, this would involve possessing an attribute to temporarily use the person as an agent serving dark outcomes. This is a reason why Christians still need to pursue an active sanctification process in relationship with God through the Holy Spirit, Jesus who is with us. The scriptures are clear that saved Christians never lose salvation or God's love. "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword . . . For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:35, 38-39
